E-Learning solutions today are helping educational institutions, government agencies
and businesses to move away from their traditional classroom education to online
learning. Educational institutions can deploy more cost-effective training programs
for their students by using the Internet or by distributing CD based education programs, which can be standalone, Internet- or Intranet-based. IMC Global Services has designed
and deployed web-enabled and standalone multimedia educational CDs for leading,
U.S. universities.
Some of our e-Learning projects include:
“Crafting the Essay” Courseware CD – Johns Hopkins University
The web enabled educational games CD was designed and developed for academically
gifted students in elementary, middle and secondary schools participating in the
Johns Hopkins University's (JHU) Center for Talented Youth (CTY) program. While
helping the students enhance their essay writing skills, the entertaining and challenging
CD allows the students to submit written assignments and receive feedback from the
tutor via e-mail or through online discussion forums. The highly interactive environment
makes learning enjoyable and entertaining.
Descartes' Cove CDs – Johns Hopkins University
Descartes' Cove is an
integrated series of six (6) mathematics software programs
designed for academically talented students in grades six through eight, or earlier.
These programs enable gifted students to solve math problems in a highly interactive,
game-like environment that emphasizes logical problem-solving skills, and encourages
investigation and exploration rather than drill and practice. They adhere closely
to NCTM standards, and present problems within each topic that help students meet
the criterion of the standards. The six CDs with different adventure themes are
as follows:
- Algebra – Underground Cavern Adventure
- Reasoning & Proof – Tree house Adventure
- Data Analysis & Probability – Mining Cave
- Measurement – Rafting Adventure
- Geometry – Castle Adventure
- Numbers & Operations – Sunken Ship Adventure
Some key features of the software series are briefly described below:
- An interactive game-like interface enables students to “explore” a cove-like environment
with caves, treetops, underground tunnels, and sunken ships.
- Problem-solving skills are developed with problem sets that match the environmental
context.
- Rewards, hints, and scaffolding are available during the game when needed.
- A challenge section with multi-step problems helps students to integrate skills
learned.
- Records of student data are provided to document students' progress.
- Students can record their thoughts about each problem and their problem-solving
approach in personal journals.
- At the completion of the ‘games', a certificate is awarded to document completion
and to provide a tangible record of success.
IMC Global Services has already completed the design and development of the Algebra
and Measurement CDs. The remaining four (4) CDs are in advanced stages of completion.
Hazardous Waste Management Training Program – KEVRIC Company, Inc
IMC Global Services designed and developed a web/CD based application for hazardous
waste management training programs for KEVRIC's client.
The salient features include:
- The application is based on current Federal requirements for managing hazardous
waste

program lively and user friendly
